UMNO smartphone
Umno branded smartphone was unveiled on the sidelines of the party annual general assembly today which boots up with an Umno logo and the party's symbol is also reflected on the phone's wallpaper. The smartphone also carries the UMNO logo at the back of the phone. This newly established brand could potentially be a new trend where UMNO members or supporters could carry the UMNO logo around in their pocket.
The phone was developed by Chili Mobile (M) Sdn Bhd in cooperation with
the Ministry of science, technology and innovation(MOSTI) and the Malaysian
Investment Development Authority (Mida).
The phone comes with a quad-core processor with 2GB of
RAM, and sports a 5.5-inch HD IPS display, 16GB internal memory and a
2,500mAh battery. Factory ported with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box, possess a dual-SIM and 4G-LTE capabalities. Camera-wise, the smartphone has a
5MP front-facing camera and a 13MP rear camera. The price tag of this phone is an astonishing RM888 which puts it in direct competition with the XiaoMi Mi4 both specification and price wise as both phone has the exact same hardware specification with slight difference in pricing.
XiaoMi Mi4
However one disadvantage the UMNO phone has over the Mi4 is that the fact where the Mi4 is more updated software wise where it comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow update which puts it slightly in the lead.
But this post isnt about the Mi4 it is aimed to recommend MARA Digital to include the phone as a featured item. Here's why MARA Digital should consider creating a featured stand just for the UMNO smartphone;
- It adds a niche to the digital mall where a certain unique item is sold only at the location and nowhere else
- There is a need for product diversification within the digital mall as almost everyone is selling the exact same product which are laptops as stated in yesterday's post.
Feature stand infront of escalator
Guess it wouldnt hurt to get rid of one laptop seller as there's too many laptop sellers. Furthermore the location is the most strategic for a feature as its located right in front of the escalator and would be the first shop anyone would visit.
Another thing that limits the usability of the UMNO smartphone is a lack of accessories where it is a new phone and has non existence accessories available for the time being(in the future maybe?). Being a new brand smartphone, the parts the phone is built on is also still unknown at the moment and spareparts may or may not be available locally(will someone disassemble one so we know whats inside).
The UMNO smartphone is just a collectors item rather than an actual consumer phone for now as it lacks what every smartphone brand has and needs which is a service center. In the event anything goes wrong with the phone your completely on your own which is why it is not a reliable consumer phone(maybe they'll open a service center @ MARA Digital). Feel free to get an UMNO smartphone if your an avid collector looking for something fresh or just wants to show support but remember it is a collectible item rather than a consumer item.
